Psych Rockers ZEBEDEE Release New Album
Brooklyn-based psych rock band Zebedee recently released their second studio album, Going Nowhere Fast. The project showcases the band’s growth, blending booming drums, smooth guitar riffs, and contemplative lyrics. Produced by GRAMMY-winning engineer Daniel Avila and recorded at Flux Recording Studios in Manhattan, the album was written by lead vocalist Zebedee Row and guitarist Kelsey Van Mook, reflecting their personal and creative partnership.
Going Nowhere Fast draws on the band’s love of neo-psych and desert rock, with fuzzy guitar riffs, shimmering synths, and post-punk rhythms. Row’s lyrics address frustrations about the current state of the world, touching on societal issues and the human condition. He describes the album as a reflection on navigating life without falling into despair, shaped by the band’s experience of creating the project during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The album’s first single “Fast Edee” introduces listeners to a fictional hedonist character on a quest for pleasure. Row, who also directed the song’s accompanying video, describes the character as someone who lives by the motto “Go hard or go home.” The video, set in New York, portrays Edee’s attempt to escape his troubled past and start anew with his daughter, only to be drawn back into one final job.
Other notable tracks include “I Don’t Know Where Your Phone Is,” a lighthearted take on phone addiction, and “For God’s Sake,” a nostalgic song about growing up in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. The band also released a remix of “For God’s Sake” by Jeremy Bastard, giving the track a fresh, reworked sound.

Zebedee, which features members from Australia, Mexico, Canada, and the U.S., has been performing in New York City since 2013. The group, led by Row and Van Mook, along with drummer Don McKenzie, bassist Michael Benham, and guitarist Fred Seddon, celebrated the release of Going Nowhere Fast with a performance at NYC’s Mercury Lounge on August 13, alongside Kirk Douglas’ band Hundred Watt Heart.
