Psychotropic Cinema: THE INCREDIBLY STRANGE CREATURES WHO STOPPED LIVING AND BECAME MIXED-UP ZOMBIES!!?
- Jeff Broitman
My name is Frank Levine and Iām originally from Philadelphia, PA. I lived in Los Angeles most of my adult life, and I’ve retired to a rural town in southern Nevada called Pahrump. It’s about 60 miles west of Las Vegas.
I have been influenced by many diļ¬erent styles of art and many diļ¬erent artists but my biggest influences have been the Abstract Expressionists, such as Jackson Pollock.
I was strongly influenced by Kandinsky and Georgia O’Keeļ¬, but I have been influenced by all the art I’ve seen in one way or another.
And of course, I have been highly influenced by using psychedelics since 1966 (the first time I took LSD at age 16), as well as all the incredible psychedelic art that has come out since the 1960s.
I work in several diļ¬erent media but the one I use the most these days is Alcohol Ink. I also work with Acrylics and house paint.
I find inspiration in the world around me, I live in a desert and the beauty of my surroundings makes me want to paint. I have a series of popular abstracts called Desert Nights.
Creating art and music (I’m a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter), is what helps me get through the day. I’ve been drawing and painting since I was very young but never spent much time doing it until I retired. I worked as a house painter/painting contractor for 40-odd years and by doing so I learned a lot about the properties of paint. My company did far more than just repainting homes.Ā We specialized in decorative painting and the usual stuļ¬. Faux finishes, murals Trompe L’oeil, and other decorative techniques were our specialties.
Upon retirement, I decided to put my knowledge of paint to good use by creating art.
My main motivation for creating art is to bring a little beauty into what can be an ugly world at times. I don’t try to paint sociological themes; I just work with shapes and colors to make an image that will make people say, ‘Gee, that’s pretty!”
I don’t follow current trends in art, and I don’t particularly have a ‘style’. Each painting is unique.
I donāt pay much heed to critics, but regular people all seem to enjoy my pictures. That means more to me than a truckload of critics’ opinions.
I hope you all enjoy the pictures I have submitted to Psychedelic Scene.
