Podcast: Dr. Matthew Gamble interviews Psychedelic Scene Publisher Jason LeValley
Dr. Matthew Gamble introduces Jason LeValley, founder of Psychedelic Scene, and expresses his interest in learning more about the publication and its impact. Jason shares that he launched Psychedelic Scene in 2020 while staying in Phoenix during the COVID-19 pandemic. His inspiration came from his previous experience writing for another psychedelic-focused publication, which declined his offer to collaborate. Instead, he started his own platform to cover not just music but all aspects of psychedelic culture, including art, healing journeys, and personal experiences with psychedelics.
Dr. Gamble notes the publication’s rapid growth, particularly its Facebook following of over 20,000, and asks Jason what he attributes that success to. Jason explains that consistent engagement has been key, as he posts frequently and has learned what content resonates with his audience. He also believes the demographics of his website readers may differ somewhat from his social media followers.
The conversation shifts to Jason’s personal experiences with psychedelics. He shares that his curiosity about them began in high school, but he didn’t try them until college, where he became fascinated by their effects. Initially, he viewed psychedelics primarily as a tool for exploration and personal growth rather than healing. It wasn’t until 2020 that he became interested in their therapeutic potential, particularly after experiencing a traumatic event in 2019. This led him to explore psychedelic-assisted healing, including ketamine therapy.
