Interview: Shannon Duncan- Author of Coming Full Circle
With each passing year, new evidence of the immense healing potential psychedelics offer for anxiety, depression, addiction, PTSD, and more emerge from credible studies and research groups. As the excitement grows, so too does the often dangerous misinformation generated by profiteers and pseudo experts. A fierce protector of those who are utilizing psychedelics as a way to heal their emotional wounds and trauma, Shannon Duncan knows firsthand the courage, determination, and vulnerability required to approach emotional healing in this specialized way.
Coming Full Circle is a detailed, informative guide on using psychedelics to heal that is intertwined with a deeply personal memoir of the authors own journey of healing. It will empower its readers with a greater understanding of the true potential, limitations, risks, and nuances to the process of using psychedelics to heal trauma.
“Coming Full Circle comes at a time when many are considering trying psychedelics as a means to healing their trauma. This book gives an unflinching, realistic look at what treatment resistant trauma can look like and takes the reader on a journey of healing with a raw, painfully honest delivery. It’s a powerful tale of healing emotional wounds and trauma with the help of psychedelics.”
– Rick Doblin, Ph.D., Founder and President of MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies)
“One of the most important and healing aspects of the deep visionary experiences unleashed by psychedelics is the sharing of these experiences with others — sharing your pain and your joy and experiencing the pain and joy of others in a state of clarity, empathy, acceptance, humility and openness. When it comes to psychedelic experiences and the management of trauma, Shannon Duncan has walked the walk. What he shares in Coming Full Circle, the result of years of direct engagement at the heart of the mystery, is both deeply healing and richly informative. Highly recommended.”
– Graham Hancock, author of The Divine Spark and Fingerprints of the Gods.
“Coming Full Circle offers a well defined ‘map’ for those who seek healing through psychedelics. But the real value of this book comes from the way Shannon Duncan clarifies the psychedelic ‘territory’ by courageously sharing accounts of his own experiences with different compounds, interactions with various guides and his riveting personal journey of unwinding trauma. The way the psychedelic experiences are shared in this book go beyond your average ‘trip report’ and are instead presented as well processed and integrated lessons, revealed through detailed attention to sensation, energy and emotion.
I find that most of the books written by experts on the topic spend too many pages re-telling the history of psychedelics and reviewing the same scientific research but offer very little practical wisdom about the actual path to healing. Of course, Michael Pollen’s book was well received for its relevance because it was written from the perspective of a seeker dipping their toe in the psychedelic space for the first time. Duncan has also written Coming Full Circle from the perspective of the seeker, but one who has spent years fully immersed in the deep end. Yet despite having exponentially more personal experience in the psychedelic space than the researchers or guides I’ve met; Duncan maintains an openness and humility about the path and is clearly sharing his story and insight from a place of service.
Overall I’m left feeling inspired to go deeper with my own psychedelic work and grateful that there are seasoned psychedelic journeymen like Shannon Duncan to illuminate the path.”
