Artist Spotlight: Jake Kobrin

Jake Kobrin is a multidisciplinary artist whose work brings classical precision to psychedelic and esoteric imagery. Known primarily for his intricately detailed paintings, he creates worlds that are at once dark, beautiful, unusual, and elegant. His art explores experiences beyond ordinary waking consciousness, giving visual form to the numinous and visionary while embracing the full spectrum of human emotion.

The interplay of shadow and light is central to Kobrin’s work. It appears both in the delicate modeling of his figures and in the emotional and spiritual character of his subjects. Revelation and peace coexist with fear and disharmony, reflecting a willingness to engage with unsettling aspects of experience alongside moments of beauty and transcendence. His paintings invite viewers into this complexity, where opposing forces become parts of a larger whole.

Emanation by Jake Kobrin

Kobrin studied classical realist drawing and painting at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. This formal training provides a technical foundation for his visionary imagery, bringing careful attention to form, dimension, and detail to subjects rooted in imagination and expanded states of consciousness.

A practitioner of ritual magick, Kobrin draws inspiration from the occult, mystery schools, and mystical traditions of Western esotericism, as well as Buddhism, Hinduism, animism, and Tantra. He describes himself as an “interdimensional midwife and conduit,” understanding artistic creation as an opportunity to move beyond the individual self and allow a larger consciousness to find expression. As he explains, “I do not claim authorship for any of the works of art I have painted. I am a channel for Great Spirit to create through me.”

Pot Skull by Jake Kobrin

Raised among the redwood forests near San Francisco, Kobrin also spent many years living in Bali. His creative practice extends well beyond painting. As a tattoo artist, he is inspired by the ceremonial contexts surrounding tattooing in ancient cultures and approaches the process as an intentional, reverent rite of passage. He is also the founder and designer of Medicine Dragon Designs, a jewelry and fashion brand.

Kobrin’s other pursuits include teaching, music, DJing, writing, speaking, and podcasting. He is the author of The Path Within: Ritual Magick and the Gateway to Self-Mastery. Across these varied forms of expression, his work explores the relationship between creativity, spiritual practice, and the inner life.
