REZN Unveils Their Latest Album “Burden”

Chicago-based psychedelic doom band REZN is set to release their album, “Burden,” today. The album follows the critically acclaimed “Solace,” and promises to deliver a contrasting emotional journey for listeners.

The band’s recent singles have already garnered praise from music publications. Revolver lauded their track “Collapse” as a piece of “atmospheric mastery,” highlighting REZN’s ability to create immersive soundscapes. Guitar World also praised their lead single “Chasm,” naming it one of the best songs of April. This early acclaim sets high expectations for the rest of the album.

REZN’s previous albums—Let It Burn (2017), Calm Black Water (2018), Chaotic Divine (2020), and Solace (2023)—have all achieved impressive success. Each has undergone multiple vinyl pressings despite lacking traditional distribution or retail presence, a testament to the band’s strong organic support and dedicated fanbase. This underground acclaim has led to notable festival appearances across North America and Europe, as well as tours with acts like Russian Circles, Elder, and King Buffalo.

“Burden” was recorded alongside “Solace” in July 2021 at Earth Analog Studios in Tolono, IL, with producer Matt Russell. Rather than release a double album, REZN chose to split the material into two distinct records, each with its own emotional tone. While “Solace” aimed to uplift with a sense of narcotic dreaminess, “Burden” explores themes of delirium, claustrophobia, and misery. The musical direction of “Burden” leans more towards heavy riffs, dynamic percussion, and dissonance, though it maintains a cohesive connection to its predecessor.

REZN’s expertise as gear heads, sound engineers, and seasoned DIY veterans has allowed them to craft a powerful and uncompromising sound. Their early body of work is characterized by speaker-rattling dirges and heady lysergic explorations, establishing them as a formidable force in the heavy psych scene.

With “Burden,” REZN continues to push the boundaries of their genre, delivering an album that promises to be as captivating as it is intense. The band’s ability to generate significant buzz and support without traditional industry mechanisms speaks to their unique appeal and the strong connection they have with their audience.

For those interested in experiencing “Burden,” the album will be available for streaming and download on June 14th.
