Music Year-in-Review 2022

The end of the year is a great time for year-end Best Of lists.  While we would love to give you a comprehensive report of the best psych albums released in the past year, we don’t yet have the manpower here at Psychedelic Scene to listen to and review all the significant psychedelic music albums that were released in 2022.  What we can do, though, is give you a rundown on the albums we did review.  Here then is our list of albums we reviewed in 2022.  We’ve added a letter grade to help you prioritize your listening.  Cheers!

Wait.  We’re not done!  We’ve got one more album to add to the list.  Writer/editor Bill Kurzenberger is hard at work writing his review of the album Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms, and Lava by prolific Aussie psych band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.  The review isn’t done yet, but he wanted to be sure it’s included as one of the year’s best.  Here’s a little bit of what’s to come:

Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava was just one of three albums released by the eclectic Australian band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard this past October, but stands out as the band’s most lauded and unique release of 2022. The concept album lyrically delves into primal themes and elemental forces, as well as mortality. The band explores all seven modes of the major scale at varying times, while also including the requisite dose of microtonal madness.
